Rush post GO!

I really don’t know how the time seem to go by so fast that I never have time to update this thing so uh ya no on with my last week in photos (lots of them) oh and please excuse my lack of photo editing soooo LAZYYYY.

This past wed. to sunday was fashion week in Copenhagen. I didn’t get to do much but it was pretty cool.

and the part I liked was the fashion flee market they had on Saturday where I spent 50$ and got 2 shirts, a belt, a scarf, and shoes. That was great! Mind you this is coming from the land where a McDonald’s Big Mac combo will run you at least 10$

my new shoes YAY!

SOO THEN THIS MAGICAL EVEN CALLED THE SUPERBOWL HAPPENED (which you already know) AND THE GIANTS WON!!!!! BOO YA! (again you already know) so here look at a presuperbowl ad in Danish

FUNNN :D though the actual broadcast which I watched in a bar starting at 12:30 here was interesting. They had the weirdest like low key announcers yet the same American footage (whyyyyy??) and then all the commercials were either really boring european car commercials or David Beckham in tighty whities (NOOOOO they took away my superbowl commercials)

Anyway then came the SNOW!!!!! and COLD!!! so cold! so ya here are some pictures taken from in and around my studio and other classes

and then school happened and ya school stuff.

Then my friends decided to go sight seeing at night …… without a map (smart……)

frozen canals

black diamond

buildings across from the black diamond

Royal playhouse … and an Alex

ok ok ok so here is where it gets fun!!! and by fun I mean kinda freaky. So we were gonna take a boat to this canal community I was supposed to go visit and we went to the stop the boat cam up and as I am trying to ask the guy if its the right boat he starts backing out (of course it was the wrong boat. Bum bum bum) but the guy said it was going to a place close to where we live so we figured we would just stay on and get off there. Then as we started moving the boat made weird noises and we could feel all the ice blocks hitting the boat as it went  needless to say we got off asap and took another boat back to where we came from. For real look at the ice chunks in that photo it was intense!

so anyway ehere we got off happened to be the opera.

then we went back to the playhouse

Quick Post

I have a lot to talk about that has happened since my last post both good and bad. For now though I wanted to share this sheet I made for studio based on my take of the bike culture in Copenhagen. Choosing the photos was so hard! I have sooo many pictures of bikes!!

I will explain more later but for now I need sleep. Its 2:30 GEEZSH! I typically don’t get this bad for at least a couple of weeks into studio haha not the first assignment.

Mando Out!

Made it!

Nyhaven

Say this post is only 3 days late. Oops. It has been really busy these first few days. We have had a packed schedule of workshops, information sessions, and tours (which really is more of, here is a map I hope you can find these places!). I have just been exhausted and haven’t had the energy to post as if jet-lag wasn’t bad enough on its own. It is cold AMAZINGLY COLD. Ya, I read a post from someone back home today saying they were wearing shorts… I can’t say the same. Then according to my weather channel app it feels like 52 in Knoxville and it feels like 19 in Copenhagen, BRRRRR. I am still adjusting if you can’t tell.

I would not change these first few days though if I could …. well then again I might make it warmer Haha. But really all these sessions have been really helpful and I actually feel confident in getting around on my own with a map and the trains are really easy to navigate. Though it is really odd how silent people are on the trains. Even when people go to get up or move past others it is all done with the slightest expressions and movements. Like a flick of the eyes is all that is needed to get by someone, no “excuse me” or any other formalities. Even when I think of the trains in Japan they seem like a rousing atmosphere compared to a Copenhagen train. For example, there even though people are generally very quiet there was almost always a couple people having quiet conversations or school children horse playing and joking with each other. Here though it is just silent. Once I saw a man talking on his phone and some teens laughing as they got on but, even then they got silent once on and just motioned to eachother. Technically they were speaking sign language but, I saw then running up at the last minute to catch the train and they were really loud outside.

The Royal Danish Playhouse (Copenhagen Opera House seen afar)

Then today was the run around the city like blind mice with a map. I got a little too excited when our first stop was the Black Diamond (the Royal Library) since I didn’t get to see the inside last time I was in Copenhagen. After wondering around the atrium sad that I couldn’t take pictures of the inside, Our group continued onto stops in Christianshaven and Nyhavn. Then we were to go to the castle where the royal family live, which by the way doesn’t look like a castle. Before we got there though I convinced my group to take the scenic tour down to the water and walk through the Royal Danish Playhouse. YAY!Yet even with my detour we still arrived at the castle just in time for the changing of the guard.Yep it was fun and really such a good experience to get to orient ourselves by finding everything. With that I am going to end this for now and go to bed, since I am still really tired from all that walking.

Getting Ready!

Well it is not too many hours now before I ship off. I am so excited, I test packed my bag and all my stuff should fit. I can’t wait to start taking photos to document this trip. Hopefully I have a window seat so I can start on the plane but, I can’t remember for sure.Copenhagen is such an interesting city with its blend of classic and contemporary.

To give those who don’t know a little insight, I have been to Copenhagen once before though, it was only for a day. I took a mini term study abroad trip two years ago to Sweden and while in Malmo our group decided to take a day trip to Copenhagen. This was not the only time I have been abroad though. Last summer I was fortunate enough to travel to Japan and Hong Kong. Also, I have been to London once and Norway several times since my father’s family originated there, and I still have cousins I am close to there.

Through all my travels I have come to see an amazing variety of cultures while also coming to better understand my own. Scandinavia is one of the most interesting for me. Denmark is going to be fun on so many levels and with this blog I hope to share my discoveries and photos.

With the end of this first post though I want to have at least one not as serious portion. So, I leave you all with this song my father has been singing to me in every version he can track down on the internet for the past month so enjoy!
